My name is Queniece Edgerton. I was born and raised in Buffalo, NY. Although, I am only 20 years old, I have been through a lot. I found out that I was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 13. By this time, I had already lost my aunt (she was in her early 20s) due to this disease. I felt that this was a death sentence. With this, I had to change my lifestyle and learn my diet restrictions. I felt unsupported during this difficult time so you can say “I was alone”. This feeling of loneliness began to consume my life. I went through years of therapy and was later on diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and severe depression, I had to learn to keep my head up and do what I had to, to keep on fighting.
As someone who suffers from severe depression, I can relate to those feelings of being down and just having bad days. At times, you feel like giving up is your only option. During those moments, you just can’t take anymore and you just want to be left alone. When you are alone in your thoughts, you start to break down. You have all sorts of feeling flooding your mind, feelings of the weight of the world on your shoulders and it’s just too heavy to lift, the nights that you wish it would finally be over. Putting on a brave face but going days feeling like what you’re doing isn’t enough. The longer these bad days are, it breaks you down more and more every day. I personally suffered and fought for years to understand why I’m having these feelings to one day realize there isn’t an answer for these feelings. Sometimes they are what they are and it’s ok not to know why you feel like this. Finding comfort and security in something (a specific blanket, a favorite hoodie, etc) and always having it with you is how I kept going. My comfort item helps me remind myself that it is ok.
Hardlybroken is a design for those who just feel down and out sometimes. On those days where you just don’t know what’s wrong or what to do, you feel alone, empty and sometimes hopeless, put on this apparel and know there is people out there who are going through the same thing with you. Hardlybroken isn’t just a piece of clothing it’s an expression, a way to say I’m not fully broken but I’m not all the way together. When you put Hardlybroken apparel on, it gives you a feeling of safety, security, comfort, and a reminder that you are not broken, you are unique and you don’t have to struggle through it alone.
